Bridges Wasserschloss Taufkirchen

Project Description

As part of the renovation of the moated castle (Wasserschloss) in Taufkirchen (Vils) two bridges were planned.

The first, a beam bridge, spans 11m over the small stream Stephansbrünnlbach to establish a shorter connection between the town hall and the moated castle. The existing bridge at that location will be replaced, return walls will be added so the abutments can be used for the new bridge.

The second bridge spans 25m over the castle moat and is an integral structure. The double-comparted steel box girder with a high torsional stiffness has a varying cross section from 30cm height at the ends to 15cm height at midspan. Micro piles are used as a deep foundation.

Both bridges are built of corten / weathering steel, as a contrast the railing infill is a stainless steel net. The illumination of the bridge deck is realized by a continuous LED-bar integrated into the handrails.
